Central Valley Fire is out of control in tournament play

Team wins three Class I tournament championships

By Dick Sparrer

The Fire was out of control this summer, at least as far as other youth soccer teams were concerned.

The Central Valley United Fire, an under-13 boys' soccer team from the area, won three straight Class I tournament championships in August, and the locals won the three in impressive fashion.

In each tournament, the Fire won four straight games--three by shutout--to cruise to championships.

Central Valley gave up just a single goal in four games on the road to the title in the Sebastopol Classic. The Fire matched that effort in the San Ramon Valley Cup tourney, and the locals matched it again in the Central Valley Magic Cup event.

Adan Ramirez, Jeff Barry, David Orosco and John Pinelli stoke the Fire attack along with captains Dean Picone and Phil Bestrom and goalkeeper Nick Keller.

Aris Deylan and Steve Laidlaw are the top scorers for the champs, and Chris Keller, Dave Evans, Dave von Stockhausen, Jarod Bibb, Cemal Ozemek, Sean Lopes, P.J. Murphy and Kyle Millerick are other key players.

The Fire, coached by Greg Pinelli, is now 12-0 and has won three tournament championships. No other under-13 boys' team in Northern California has matched that effort.
