Catfish Swim

They say the Lexington Reservoir is filled with catfish.

Well, if that's true, then the catfish had their peaceful swimming disturbed for a weekend during the summer when the annual Catfish Open Water Swim returned the Lexington waters.

Thousands of swimmers splashed across the reservoir in the 1.2-mile and 2.4-mile event. Some of the swimmers were wearing wetsuits, others were nearly as bare as the catfish the race is named for.

Dan Veatch, 36, of San Francisco was the winner in the 1.2-mile skin race with 16-year-old Richie Crowder of Los Gatos a close second. Barbara Crowder, 43, of Los Gatos won the women's 1.2-mile skin race.

In the 1.2-mile wetsuit race, Robert Crowder, 45, of Los Gatos cruised to a first-place finish in the men's division and Cathrin Barsch, 34, was the women's winner.

Veatch was the overall winner in the 2.4-mile skin race and Ashley Frogner, 21, was the women's winner. In the 2.4-mile wetsuit swim, Lisa Lemmon, 24, was the women's open winner and Eric Bean, 25, won the men's division.

In the "Team in Training" .6 mile swim, 23-year-old Christine Nelson of Cupertino was the overall women's winner, and 36-year-old William Delveaux won the men's race.

Ron's Wildlife Run

Ron's Wildlife Run, a benefit for the Youth Science Institute, returns to Vasona Park on Sept. 16, 7 a.m. The event features three different races: a 10K run, a 5K stride and a 2K kids event. For more information, call 408.356.4945.

LPGA in San Jose

The Ladies Professional Golf Association is coming to San Jose not to play a tournament, but to share their knowledge of the game with other women.

The LPGA Golf Clinics for Women series will stop off at the Silver Creek Valley County Club on Sept. 10. The clinics, for golfers of all skill levels, include personalized golf instruction on on-course playing lessons that include course management tips, rules and etiquette.

Touring pro Sally Little will give an exhibition and 18 LPGA teaching pros will provide the instruction. Each participant will receive a gift package, a group photo with Little, breakfast and lunch.

The program is also a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
