Residents are asked to name two new midtown SJ parks

The San Jose Parks and Recreation Commission wants its residents to name two new parks. The commission will review and make a recommendation for the names of two midtown parks at its meeting on Sept. 23.

The parks include one in midtown near the corner of Meridian and Auzerais Avenues. The first half of the park will be built following the completion of nearby town homes now under construction. The second portion of the park will be built and dedicated as a part of the adjacent development on the Saddlerack Country Western Bar property.

Another park at the "Cahill West" area of midtown, is near the old Del Monte fruit packing plant.

Call the parks department at 408.277.5470 for an application.

The commission advises the supervisors on ordinance amendments dealing with land development and subdivision matters, including zoning changes. The commission has the power to grant or deny use permits and administers the county's planning laws for land use and development in unincorporated areas.

The position requires attendance at the commission's monthly meetings, residency in the county and an interest in land use and development.

Interested citizens should contact Simitian's office at 408.299.3540. The deadline for applying is Oct. 1.
