Beauties Three: Glenites Elizabeth Dorsa (left), Reyna Cervantes and Calen Bigger (front) sport their Miss Junior San Jose tiaras. All three girls are participants in the Junior America pageant.

Mascot and boy Soccer To Me: Glenite Dylan Van der Esch, 5, 'kicks it' with San Jose Clash mascot José Clash. Dylan, an aspiring Olympian, plays on the Central Valley Youth Soccer boys' under-6 team. The Clash head to Dallas on Sept. 11 to battle the Burn, before returning home on Sept. 19 to face the Miami Fusion. For ticket information, call 408-985-GOAL.

    Bookmobile

Booking to the Future: The San Jose Public Library is racing into the new millennium with a new, technologically savvy bookmobile. And it's kelly green to boot. The new bookmobile will trek around the valley, visiting senior centers, schools and other places. Well equipped for traveling in Silicon Valley, the laptop-laden bookmobile will allow patrons to go online and check out the library's catalog of material or reserve a book to be delivered on the bookmobile's next biweekly trip. The vehicle also boasts 3,000 books, magazines, tapes, newspapers and records, and it is equipped with a wheelchair lift.
