Volunteers will have an impact on community

More than 1,600 Bay Area residents are expected to lend a hand at the fifth annual Community Impact Day of public service set for Saturday, Oct. 3.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteers will be spread out through the area painting homeless shelters, planting trees and sorting donations at food banks. In total they'll work on 60 service projects that support Bay Area nonprofit organizations of all kinds.

Individuals and groups interested in participating should register for the event by Sept. 25. For more information or to register to volunteer, call 650/925-0242 or visit www.communityimpact.org.
