Dropping in on Founders Day

Nearly 25,000 people lined Lincoln Avenue Saturday evening to celebrate the history of Willow Glen during the 16th annual Founders Day festival.

Disappointment over the fact that the arts portion of the fair was axed this year was not in evidence on the faces of celebrants as they marched in the parade, danced to disco music or strolled in and out of Lincoln Avenue shops.

Nor was it in evidence in the turn-out: Police estimated 1,200 people participated in this year's kick-off parade--the biggest number since the fair's beginnings. Hundreds of those in the parade were alumni of Willow Glen Elementary, who were chosen to collectively lead the parade in recognition of their school's 100-year anniversary.
