Jaguars post second win; Vikings and Dons both fall

He's just a freshman, but already Reymon Murphy is putting up big number for the football team at San Jose City College.
Murphy, who opened the season with 23 carries for 249 yards and two touchdowns, scored two more touchdowns last Saturday to lead the Jaguars to a rousing 34-6 victory over the College of Marin on the SJCC turf.
Murphy, a speedster from Killian, Fla., scored on short runs of 1 and 4 yards in the third quarter to help the Jags turn a close game into a rout.
Tony Silveria snapped a scoreless tie when he hauled in a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Seth Bancroft in the second quarter. David Carr kicked the first of his four extra points.
Jorge Nevarez made it 13-0 before intermission when he blasted over from the 1.
Murphy scored twice in the third period before Chuck Quinn scored on a 9-yard run in the fourth to give the Jaguars a 34-0 lead. Marin broke up the shutout bid with a score in the fourth.
Leading the Jags to the 34-point night was the strong presence of the San Jose offensive line led by sophomore center Jimmy Polmanteer, who just a week ago was named San Jose "Hitter of the Week" against De Anza. Guards Chris Smith (Lincoln) and Silau Tavale and tackles Scott Matthews (Leland) and Francis Maikowski joined Polmanteer in the offensive charge.
The Jaguars, now 2-0, will be back under their Moorpark Avenue lights on Sept. 23 when they host powerful Fresno City College in a 7 p.m. nonleague game.
Vikings fall
A fourth quarter 21-yard touchdown pass from David Macchi (Willow Glen) to Scott McMahon was the only score that West Valley Community College could manage in a lopsided 66-7 loss to the City College of San Francisco on Saturday.
Jeff Chaussee tacked on the extra-point kick on the touchdown that helped the Vikings avoid the shutout in the nonleague game.
The Vikes will open conference play this weekend when they visit the College of San Mateo on Sept. 23, 1 p.m. The return home a week later to host the College of the Sequoias on Sept. 29, 3 p.m., in Saratoga.
Dons slip to 0-2
De Anza Community College dropped its second straight game of the young season, falling 48-10 at Yuba last Saturday. The Dons will be on the road again this week to visit Contra Costa College on Sept. 23, 7 p.m., before returning home to Cupertino on Sept. 30 to host Mendocino at 1 p.m.
