It was something of a stumble for the Willow Glen girls field hockey team. The Rams opened the season with a rousing 7-0 victory over San Jose Academy, but then were tripped 2-0 by Prospect a game later.

And that loss turned out to be bad news for Monta Vista, Branham and Westmont.

Because Willow Glen played the three teams last week, and the Rams outscored the three 13-1 while rolling to consecutive victories.

Willow Glen improved to 4-1 for the year with a 4-0 win over the Matadors, a 5-0 triumph over the Bruins and a 4-1 victory over the Warriors.

Junior forward Stacy Bruni knocked in six goals and added a couple of assists, and senior co-captain Jenny Holt added four goals and three assists in the three wins last week.

Bruni pumped in three goals, two off assists from Holt and one off a pass from senior mid Julie Drake, to lead the Rams past the Warriors 4-1 last Friday afternoon in a nonleague game at Westmont.

Holt scored the Rams' other goal in the win, getting an assist from sophomore mid Janelle Zetterquist.

The Rams were up just 1-0 at the half, but unloaded for three goals in the second half to run away with the win.

Holt and Bruni each scored in the win over Branham on Wednesday. Holt scored off an assist from senior defender Lindsey Herauf, and Bruni knocked in a goal off an assist from senior forward Michele Sanchez.

Herauf also got in on the scoring with a goal off an assist from Bruni in the second half.

Drake, another co-captain, gave the Rams the early lead with an unassisted goal in the first half. She also had an assist on a goal by senior forward Wendy Crawford later in the game.

Willow Glen stormed out to a 3-0 first-half lead and coasted from there to a 4-0 victory over Monta Vista.

Holt scored a couple of goals, picking up assists from Bruni, Crawford and Drake, and Bruni knocked in two more, hers coming off assists from Drake and Holt.

The Rams will take their 4-1 record up against St. Ignatius on Sept. 26, 3 p.m., at WG in their final nonleague game before opening play in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League on Oct. 2 at home against Mitty.
