Honda no-shows at debate with Cunneen
A debate between Jim Cunneen and Mike Honda was canceled last week due to a conflict in Honda's schedule.
The 15th Congressional District candidates had been scheduled to debate at noon on Sept. 21, at Three Flames Restaurant on Meridian Avenue. Cunneen campaign manager Terry Miller said that they learned that Honda would be unable to attend late the night before.
Instead, Cunneen and a Honda representative each spoke for 20 minutes at the event, and Cunneen fielded questions from the audience for 20 minutes, Miller said.
Miller said it was the fifth time Honda has opted out of a forum with Cunneen, but Honda campaign spokesman Vince Duffy said this is the only time that Honda has had to cancel a debate. He says that the two candidates have already had five debates and that seven more are scheduled. He denies that Honda is trying to avoid debating with Cunneen.
