    Baseball Showcase

    High school baseball players in the greater San Jose area interested in playing at the collegiate level will get the opportunity to display their talents on Oct. 15 with the Baseball Factory hosts a day-long showcase event at San Jose Municipal Stadium.

    The event draws college coaches from throughout the area and professional scouts. The deadline for application is Oct. 8. For more information, call 1.800.641.HITS.

    Pumpkin Run

    The annual 5K-10K Pumpkin Festival Run will return to Half Moon Bay on Oct. 15. Race registration begins at 7 a.m. for the 8 a.m. event. Runners will start at Hatch Elementary School, 490 Miramontes Ave. Registration fee (before Oct. 6) is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12-and-under and seniors.     Officials Needed

    The City of Santa Clara needs basketball officials for the upcoming adult league season. Applicants must have previous officiating experience at the high school or adult league level. Games are played Monday through Thursday evenings, and officials are paid $18 per game to officiate two games and score one game per night. For more information, call 408.615.2260.

    Pitching Program

    A program for baseball pitchers that covers fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills for youth players ages 9-12 will be held Tuesday evenings Oct. 17 though Dec. 5 in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga. For more information, call Burch Boehner at 408.615.7957.

    Quicksilver Challenge

    The annual Quicksilver Challenge Half-Marathon and 10K run will be held Oct. 7, 8 a.m., at Castillero Middle School in the Almaden Valley.     YMCA Fall Sports

    The Central YMCA is looking for volunteer coaches in basketball, indoor soccer and roller hockey for the fall sports season. Teams of youngsters ages 3-6 and 7-14 will compete in the season that starts in the end of September and runs through Nov. 18. All games are played on Saturdays and there is one weekly practice at the Central YMCA. For information, call 408.298.1717, ext. 60.
