Booksin school still proud of its library
The Booksin School Library/Media Center is still the proud hub of the school. We have an outstanding credentialed librarian and library program, the same as provided by San Jose Unified School District for each elementary school.
During the summer of 1999, I decided to expand the library so it could better meet the needs of our large student population. Shelves were emptied and relocated to the new library rooms. Books were boxed and packed and moved to this larger space. The library is now doubled in size, contains tables and chairs for a full class lesson, is much more user-friendly and has space for parent/volunteer helpers.
On the first days of school this year, a team of 11 wonderful moms and dads volunteered to unpack the books and reshelve our collection. Next summer, the Library/Media Center will receive a new roof, electrical upgrades, new carpet and air conditioning, all from public support for Measure C.
All parents and community members are invited to stop by for tours or to read books to our students!

Save the rides for school fundraisers, not Founders Day
Some friends and I walked down to the Founders Day festivities on Saturday and were distressed to see all these rides parked on the street, spewing out gas exhausts and making a lot of noise. To us, this is not what Founders Day is all about. Sure, celebration is necessary, but we feel it should be more in the form of artistic expression. I saw several children's activities that were creative and fun for kids, such as working with sand, art materials, and other fun things to do. There were very nice booths with wonderful creative items to buy in jewelry, clothes, wood items, etc. The rides should be saved for fundraisers at the schools and kids can always go to Great America.
Next year, let's leave out the noisy, smelly rides and put in more crafts and food booths. One musical group I missed from the past is the Peruvian one who played with interesting wooden instruments. Another thing that might be nice would be to have some of the small music groups that often play in coffee houses such as Willow Glen Coffee Roasting.
