Flu shots available at Willows center

The season of sniffles, sneezes and fevers has arrived, but seniors who want to stave off these symptoms can line up for flu shots on Oct. 1, 8:30-11:30 a.m., at the Willows Senior Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave. These few cc's of prevention come at $5 a shot. For more information, call 448-6400.

Volunteers needed for local crisis line

CONTACT of Santa Clara County needs volunteers for a 24-hour crisis line to provide counseling or crisis information and/or referrals to other resources.

A course for new volunteers runs Oct. 6-Dec. 22 at the Willow Glen United Methodist Church, 1420 Newport Ave.

Grape-stomping at Italian Festa

Those attending the Italian Heritage Foundation's 22nd Annual Italian Family Festa should be sure to wash their feet first if they want to join in the fun of the grape-stomping contest.

Set for Oct. 3-4, the event re-creates an Italian village with decorated booths, authentic Italian food, wine and souvenir glasses, and a Saturday night tarantella street dance and costume contest with The Expresso 5 Band. Other activities include a pizza toss, a cheese-rolling contest, a salami-throw game and arts and crafts booths.

Admission to the festival, in Plaza de Cesar Chavez on Market Street between San Fernando and San Carlos streets, is free. Festival hours are Saturday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m.- 9 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 4, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
