Bob Berry Field

Willow Glen will re-dedicate its football complex in the name of the late, great Rams head varsity football coach, Bob Berry.

The dedication is scheduled for Oct. 24, between the frosh-soph and varsity football games. Willow Glen is hoping that many of Berry's former players will return for the ceremonies, which should begin at about 1 p.m.

Rams run to wins

The Willow Glen boys and girls cross-country teams ran to easy wins over Valley Christian and San Jose Academy in action last week in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

Eyasu Kabede finished first in 20:07 on the 3.17-mile course, with Kamal Abdelbaki second in 20:57 and Leo Garcia fifth in 21:42 to lead the Rams to wins over Valley (26-30) and San Jose (23-32) in boys competition.

Janette Najera was first in 25:30 to lead the Willow Glen girls to wins over Valley and San Jose, who both fielded incomplete teams for the race.

Willow Glen splits

The Willow Glen girls volleyball team split a pair of matches last week in the West Valley Division of the BVAL. The Rams pulled out an 11-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-4 win over Santa Teresa before losing a heartbreaker to Yerba Buena 15-6, 15-9, 14-16, 7-15, 15-12.

The Rams are now 3-1 in division play and 8-5 for the year.

Panthers win two

The Presentation girls volleyball team stormed to a pair of wins in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL last week. The Panthers whipped Prospect 15-9, 15-11, 15-7 and beat Del Mar 15-8, 15-11, 12-15, 15-3 to improve to 4-0 in the division and to 13-3 for the year.

Roller Hockey

The Silicon Valley Quakes, a traveling roller hockey team that plays out of San Jose, will hold try-outs for the 10-and-under and 8-and-under (ages as of Dec. 31, 1998) divisions on Oct. 10, 2:30-4:30 p.m., at the Gremic Roller Hockey facility at 401 Jackson St. in San Jose.

The year-round program is open to players from anywhere in the area. There is one practice and one game each week, but the team will also travel to play weekend tournaments.

Gremic also hosts and in-house league starting at the same time with games played each Sunday morning in San Jose.
