Spartan Hall of Fame Classic

San Jose State University baseball stars of the past Rich Guardino (1974-77) and Chris Pedretti (1978-79) will be the inductees during ceremonies at the 12th annual Spartan Baseball Hall of Fame Golf Classic Oct. 24 at the Santa Clara Golf Course.

The tourney begins with registration at 11 a.m., a putting contest at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost for the best ball scramble is $140 and includes a cart, green fees, tee prizes, lunch and dinner. The cost is $45 for the dinner only. The reservation deadline is Oct. 13.

Coaches Clinic

Baseball coaches Mike Cummins of Santa Clara University, Sam Piraro of San Jose State University and Rich Hill of USF will be the guest speakers at the Northern California baseball coaches clinic set for Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m., at Cupertino High School.

Fencing Classes

The San Jose Fencing Center, 110 Stockton Ave., provides instruction in foil and sabre weapons for children and adults. All equipment is provided. For more information, call 298-8230.

'49er Special' offered again

Going to a San Francisco 49ers game? Well, why not leave the car at home?

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is making that possible by providing direct bus service to all home games.

Buses will depart the Capitol Light Rail Station in San Jose at 10:05 a.m.; Kmart on Fruitdale in San Jose at 10:25 a.m.; Stevens Creek and Finch (Tandem) in Cupertino at 10:40 a.m.; and VTA/River Oaks in San Jose at 10:50 a.m. for 1 p.m. games (departure times are 3:05 p.m., 3:25 p.m., 3:40 p.m., and 3:50 p.m., respectively, for 6 p.m. games).

The fare is $13 for a round-trip ticket ($6.50 one way), and a season pass can be purchased in advance for $80. Buses arrive at the stadium 30 minutes before game time and depart 20 minutes after the end of the game.
