WGES parents cause problems on Iris Court
This letter is to the parents of Willow Glen Elementary School students who use Iris Court to drop off and pick up their children.
I would like to point out a few things that concern me. First, some of you are parking on the west side of the street, which is illegal and unsafe for your children. There are signs clearly posted stating "No Parking 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m."
This also creates a problem for residents and other parents to get down this very narrow street. When cars are parked on both sides of our street, only one car may pass at a time. If an emergency vehicle needed to reach a resident or one of your children, it would be impossible.
Second, some of you will park on the corner of Minnesota Avenue and Iris Court which makes it very difficult for one driving east on Minnesota then making a right turn onto Iris Court. I have personally witnessed children nearly getting hit and cars having head on collisions due to this problem. This is very scary!
Third, some of you are partially blocking and completely blocking our driveways, this is also illegal and frustrating if one is returning home or trying to leave and the parked vehicle is empty and the driver of the vehicle is no where to be seen.
I would like to express my thanks to those that obey the parking laws and have consideration to the residents of Iris Court. I would also like to say thanks to those who will graciously move their vehicles when asked. I would also like to thank the mom that was kind enough to pick up my trash when she knocked over my garbage can. What a great example you are to your children!
I am also aware that the school has sent notices home regarding this situation. I pray it does not take a fatality for people to start obeying the laws.
Perhaps we can work together to find a solution to this problem before an accident happens.

Yeager has history of local involvement
Recently there have been many letters to the editor written by "friends" of Kris Cunningham. I think it's time to hear a positive one for Ken Yeager.
While running for the District 6 city council seat I was fortunate in being able to see each candidate up close and personal over an extended period of time. That is why I have chosen to Support Ken, as did former candidate Jim Spence.
Ken has been involved in protecting our neighborhoods for 25 years. He is president of the Friends of the Rosegarden Library, chair of the Airport Curfew Monitoring Committee, member of the Guadalupe River Park and Gardens, president of the Rose Garden Home Owners Association and a member of the Mayor's Education Task Force.
In short, Ken is simply the most qualified. All this professional experience will allow him to be an effective and qualified council member from the day he takes office.
Please join me and hundreds of other District 6 residents in electing a candidate who is qualified, trustworthy and can truly represent all the neighborhoods in our district.

Cunningham is a real neighborhood activist
Lisa Gibson and Maureen Hansen were mistaken in their Sept. 20 letter to the editor. I didn't challenge Ken Yeager's neighborhood credentials. I was challenging the Yeager camp to tell us what they are. This letter is my challenge of his neighborhood credentials.
First of all, whatever it was that Yeager helped Gibson and Hansen do 25 years ago did not register in Ken's own résumé, although he considers being a member of the San Jose State University Alumni Association important enough to list under "community service." And working on a project in the past doesn't constitute 25 years of service.
Ken undeniably has a long history of political activism, but the list that Gibson and Hansen provided includes only three items of neighborhood service: president of the Rose Garden Neighborhood Association, Chair of the Airport Curfew Monitoring Committee and president of the Friends of the Rosegarden Library.
Ken's fight to keep Willow Glen's Fire Station No. 6 fully staffed consisted of writing one letter of support, and is hardly worth being considered a credential.
Ken was president of the neighborhood association for one year in 1999 and was appointed to the Airport Noise Committee by Mayor Ron Gonzales, his buddy in City Hall.
Ken Yeager may have done wonderful things in his career of public service, but he is not a neighborhood activist. His usurpation of this title is an affront to those of us who have labored many, many volunteer hours for our neighborhoods.
Gibson and Hansen should pull up Kris Cunningham's webpage, www.kriscunningham.com, and see what the resume of a premier neighborhood activist looks like.
