City to hear from Rainbow Recovery

Neighbors on Kilo Avenue in Willow Glen have been actively fighting a request by Rainbow Recovery to increase the number of residents in the substance abuse rehabilitation program's Kilo Avenue home from six to 16. They will have an opportunity to voice their concerns at the San Jose Planning Director's public hearing on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. in the San Jose City Council Chambers, 801 N. First St.

Kilo Avenue neighbors circulated a petition that garnered more than 140 signatures to show the San Jose Planning Department that the extent of the opposition.

    Homeowner must re-convert garage

The San Jose Planning Department is requiring a Willow Glen resident to either re-convert his garage back to its original two-car garage structure with 150 feet of accessory space or demolish 150 feet of the structure.

Tim Boehme, a property owner at 1008 Ramona Ave., appealed conditions of his special use permit to the San Jose Planning Department on Oct. 3. Boehme asked the planning department to allow him to keep 350 feet of the garage as accessory space, which included plumbing for a bathroom, and to keep the additional 150 feet as a one-car garage. Because the unit had originally been approved as a two-car garage with 150 feet of accessory space, the planning department denied his request.
