SJ yard waste pick-up program works
This is in response to F.A. Brandt's Oct. 10 letter on yard waste left in the street after San Jose's yard waste removal crews have taken piles of debris. This family just doesn't get it.
We moved to Willow Glen 11 years ago, before the yard-recycling program started. We moved into a very overgrown yard and made 21 trips to the dump cleaning it up. We happened to have a truck, which was a big plus. It was a huge expense to use the dump and, even worse, everything we threw away went to the dump instead of to composting and recycling.
Since San Jose's yard waste program has been in place, my neighbors (most of whom don't own trucks or have the money to use the dump) are able to clean up their yards and are not adding to landfills. San Jose looks so much better since this program has been in place. A bit of sweeping once a week is a small price to pay for such a great service.
