Surprise Party
Frances Clerico, long-time Willow Glen resident, celebrated her 85th birthday on Sept. 29, with more than 60 friends and family. The birthday celebration was a surprise to Clerico, who has lived in Willow Glen for 58 years and has been a San Jose area resident her whole life.
Born on Sept. 27, 1915, Clerico is a well-known local, especially loved by her neighbors on Fairview Avenue. Clerico worked cutting apricots for 10 cents an hour as a young woman, and worked at her parents' downtown San Jose restaurant, The Villa Roma, from 1932 to 1945. She also worked at the fountain at the downtown Woolworth store for 15 years.
Among the people in attendance at the surprise party were her only child, Bobby, and his wife Kim, who drove from Montana, her sister Thelma Johnson from San Jose, nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
