Parks seek volunteers

The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department seeks hikers, joggers, bicyclists, equestrians, skaters and motorcyclists who are interested in becoming TrailWatch volunteers. These individuals patrol park trails and facilities, inspect trails for safety and assist visitors who have questions or problems.

Twelve county parks can use TrailWatch volunteers in various categories. Sanborn-Skyline Park needs equestrians. The Los Gatos Creek Trail needs skaters and bicyclists. Stevens Creek and Upper Stevens Creek parks need mountain bikers and equestrians. And all parks welcome volunteer pedestrians, hikers and joggers.

Candidates must complete a 20-hour TrailWatch Academy in November, which includes orientation, a Red Cross first aid and CPR course, two-way radio use and public safety procedures. Some volunteers must also complete proficiency exercises. Once assigned, volunteers must agree to work a minimum of 40 hours per year for at least one year.
