Eleven WGHS students named AP Scholars

The College Board has named 11 members of the Willow Glen High School class of 2001 as AP Scholars for their performances on this year's college-level Advanced Placement exams.

Loc Nguyen and Huyentran Tran were named AP Scholars with Distinction by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all their AP exams, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams.

Joseph Liu, Alexander Nguyen and Ngoctran Tran qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all their AP exams, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.

Virginia Gonzales, Robert Hobbs, Colleen McClay, Huong Nguyen, Michael Nguyen and Nhan Vo qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher.

AP exams are taken after completing rigorous courses of study in particular subjects in order to qualify for college credit. There are 35 exams offered in 19 subject areas, each consisting of multiple-choice and free-response questions. Only about 13 percent of the more than 840,000 students in 13,680 schools who took AP exams last May were named AP Scholars.
