    Pioneer Classic

    San Jose Pacific

    San Jose Pacific Baseball will hold signups for the spring season for players ages 5-14 on Oct. 28, Nov. 18 and Dec. 9, 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, at the Round Table Pizza on Camden Avenue in San Jose. For more information, call 408.536.0657.

    Youth Basketball Coaches Needed

    Quicksilver Volleyball

    The Quicksilver Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for its age group teams (ranging from 12 to 18).

    Tryouts will be held on Nov. 12 at San Jose City College at the following times: ages 17 and 18-- 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; ages 15 and 16-- 1-3:30 p.m.; and ages 12, 13 and 14-- 4:30-6:30 p.m.

    Tryouts will be held on Nov. 19 at Oak Grove High School at the following times: ages 12, 13 and 14-- 9-11 a.m.; 15 and 16-- noon-2 p.m.; and ages 17 and 18-- 3-5 p.m.

    Players should arrive early to sign forms and bring their own knee pads. The tryout fee is $20.

    Pitching Program

    A program for baseball pitchers that covers fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills for youth players ages 9-12 will be held Tuesday evenings through Dec. 5 in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga. For more information, call Burch Boehner at 408.615.7957.

    BASHOF Donations

    The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame will donate more than $120,000 in athletic-equipment grants to boys and girls youth sports organizations in the area as part of its youth fund.

    BASHOF has distributed more than $1.6 million in grants through its youth fund since 1981. The grant-application filing period runs through Jan. 31. For information regarding grant applications, call 415.352.8827 or check www.bashof.org.
