    Rams beat Saints in OT

Two years ago, the Willow Glen girls water polo team didn't win a game in league play.

The Rams turned that around last season by going undefeated and winning the division championship.

So what do the Rams hope to do for an encore this year? Well, Scott Kaubish hopes to see his squad win another title... in a much tougher division.

"We moved up a division, but we look to be the favored team," said Kaubish, whose squad got off to a strong 2-0 start in league play last week.

The Rams ripped Mt. Pleasant 11-7 and edged Santa Teresa 5-4 in overtime last week, and now face tough tests this week against defending champion Castilleja and a strong Valley Christian squad.

"It should be a pretty wide open season, and we face a big challenge," said Kaubish. "But I think we have the potential to take it. It's not going to be a given, though."

Willow Glen got off to a good start with the two wins last week.

Alicia Barreto tossed in a goal in overtime to lift the Rams to a 5-4 win over the Saints. Barreto finished the day with three goals, and Kristin Livak added two.

The Livak sisters, Courtney and Kristin, joined with goalkeeper Allison Woodside to lead the defensive effort. The Livaks had nine forced turnovers apiece, and Woodside finished the day with 14 saves.

    C. Livak pitched in four goals, and Barreto and Whitney Gregg added two apiece to lead the Rams to the 11-7 win over Mt. Pleasant to open the week. K. Livak, Kara Buchanan and Tracy Harding also had goals in the win.

    Boys lose two

Pedro Gioia tossed in four goals in two games, and Eric Douat pitched in three, but the Willow Glen boys water polo team lost twice last week.

Gioia popped two goals, and Douat added one, but the Rams lost a 19-3 decision to Mt. Pleasant to open the league season.

Gioia and Douat drilled two goals apiece, but Willow Glen lost a tough 13-9 nod to Piedmont Hills. Kyle Buchanan, Richard Stayskal, Kyle Goddard, Joe Pizzella and Matt Staton also scored goals for the Rams.

    Hockey split

The girls field hockey team at Willow Glen split a pair of games last week, beating Lynbrook 2-1 before losing 1-0 to Los Gatos.

Stacey Santomauro and Ali Lake each scored first-half goals off assists from Kellie Arnone to lead the Rams to the win over the Vikings.

But the Rams were held scoreless two days later by Los Gatos, slipping to 2-3-2 in league play and to 6-3-3 for the year.
