The Willow Glen ResidentBooth leads Rams to a pair of winsBy Dick Sparrer It doesn't seem to matter whether Erin Booth scores or not--the Willow Glen girls field hockey team is just going to find a way to win this year in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. Booth scored three times to lead the Rams to a 3-0 win over Los Altos to open play this week. But the talented Willow Glen senior was held scoreless by San Jose Academy two days later. Still, the Rams rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Because even though Booth didn't score a goal, she was still busy helping her teammates score. Booth had two assists in the win over San Jose, a win that helped the Rams improve to 6-1-1 in the division. Willow Glen is 8-2-3 for the year. Four different players scored for the Rams in the win over San Jose. Tara Kroll and Colleen Wozny each scored off Booth assists in the game. Kristen Rovai and Kellie Arnone also scored for the Rams and Nicki Garcia and Kristen Rovai had assists. Booth knocked in two first-half goals against Los Altos early in the week and scored again in the second half to lead the Rams to the 3-0 win. Lindsey Rovai and Wozny helped Booth with a couple of assists, and she scored one goal unassisted. The Rams face a couple of key league games this week. Willow Glen hosted Cupertino on Oct. 27, 2:45 p.m., and will visit Monta Vista on Oct. 29, 2:45 p.m. The Willow Glen junior varsity field hockey team is also off to a solid start in league play. The Rams were 3-2 to start the season but have strung together six straight wins to open the league season. Freshman Jenny Holt and sophomores Samantha Bruni and Allison Lake are top scorers for Willow Glen. Sophomore goalie Lisa Hunter and soph Desirae Dagnino led the defensive effort for the Rams. "If the girls keep up their determination to learn the skills and carry them over to game situations, they will go on to have a successful end of the season," said Rams coach Erin McLey, herself a former Willow Glen field hockey star. Girls volleyball The Presentation girls volleyball team took a little time out from its busy league schedule to host the Panther Challenge last weekend. And what a challenge it was. The Panthers came up short of earning a place in the semifinals of their tournament, losing to Monta Vista 15-11, 7-15, 15-12 in the elimination round. The Panthers had knocked off Menlo 15-8, 15-3 and Gunn 14-16, 15-5, 15-10 in pool play, but lost to eventual tourney champ St. Francis 15-5, 15-4. Lynzy Caton of Presentation was named to the all-tournament team at the end of the event. In regular season action last week, Paige Desmet and Jennifer Jones helped the Panthers knock off Leland 15-7, 15-11, 15-13 and Del Mar 15-1, 11-15, 15-6, 15-11 to improve to 8-1 in the rugged Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL. In other action, Willow Glen lost a heartbreaker to Andrew Hill 13-15, 15-9, 5-15, 15-3, 15-6 to slip to 4-5 in the West Valley Division. The Rams are 9-9 for the year. Girls water polo The Livak sisters combined for six goals to lead the Willow Glen girls field hockey team to a lopsided 15-2 win over Piedmont Hills last week. The win came in the first game of the Santa Teresa Division season. The Rams are 9-5 for the year. Junior Kristan Livak and freshman Courtney Livak pitched in three goals apiece to lead the Rams to the victory. Whitney Gregg and Allison Woodside popped two goals each and Kara Buchanan, Elizabeth Travis, Nazanine Mousavi, Tracy Harding and Alicia Barreto all had goals in the Willow Glen victory. Kebede ninth Willow Glen's Eyasu Kebede romped to a ninth-place finish in the boys senior class race at the St. Francis Invitational cross country meet at Foothill College last weekend. Kebede covered the three-mile course in 17:32 to nail his spot in the top 10.
