Stick Out Defense: Field hockey standout Erin Booth (left) moves in to play some tough defense for Willow Glen in last week's clash with Homestead. The Rams pulled out a tight 2-1 win over the Mustangs. Despite the win and the 1-1 tie earlier in the week, the Rams still chase Prospect in the race for the division lead. The Panthers lead the pack with a 5-0-2 record. Willow Glen's record improved to 3-3-2 in the division and to 5-5-3 for the year with the win.

Second half goal lifts Rams

But week opens with a 1-1 tie

Willow Glen did late last week what it failed to do early in the week--and the result was a victory for the school's girls' field hockey team.

The Rams failed to score in the second half in a match with Monta Vista and ended up settling for a tough 1-1 tie with the Matadors in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

That wasn't the case two days later against Homestead.

The Rams scored a game-winning goal in the second half to pull out a 2-1 win over the Mustangs. Willow Glen improved to 3-3-2 in the division and to 5-5-3 for the year with the victory.

Junior standout Erin Booth scored a goal off assists from sophomores Tara Kroll and Kellie Arnone to give the Rams a 1-0 halftime lead against Homestead.

The Mustangs matched that goal in the second half, but the Rams scored one of their own to clinch the victory. Arnone scored off a Kroll assist to lift Willow Glen to the win.

That didn't happen earlier in the week.

The story was much the same. Willow Glen took a 1-0 lead in the first half when a pass from Booth set up junior Kristen Rovai for a goal.

And Monta Vista, like Homestead, matched the goal in the second half.

But Willow Glen was held scoreless in the second half by the Matadors and had to settle for the 1-1 tie.
