The Willow Glen ResidentRams in first, but watching FalconsSeason play finished for WG, but Saratoga has one game leftBy Dick Sparrer The regular season is over for the Willow Glen girls field hockey team, and the Rams are in first place in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. But the Rams aren't celebrating... at least, not yet. Willow Glen wrapped up the league season with a 9-2-1 record, good for a one-point lead over Saratoga in the division standings. But though the Rams may be through with their league season, the Falcons are not. So Saratoga could win the championship with a win in its final league match this week, or at least secure a share of the title with a tie. That means that the only way the Rams can win the division championship is if Saratoga loses its final match of the season this Tuesday. And it's all because the Falcons knocked off the Rams 3-1 last week. The loss left the Rams with 9-2-1 league record, and the Falcons improved to 8-1-2 with the win. Senior sensation Erin Booth scored a first-half goal off an assist from junior Kellie Arnone to help the Rams to a 1-1 halftime tie with Saratoga last week. But the Falcons knocked in two unanswered goals in the second half to pull out the victory. Willow Glen had opened the week with an impressive 7-0 victory over Homestead. Booth and senior Kristen Rovai each came through with sensational performances for the Rams. Booth buried four goals and added two assists, and Rovai had three goals and an assist in the win. Booth knocked in an unassisted goal and also scored off assists from Arnone, Rovai and Lara Covey. Rovai scored twice off assists from Booth and once off a pass from Nicki Garcia. The split last week left the Rams 11-3-3 for the year as they prepare for the Central Coast Section playoffs that begin Nov. 14. But first the Rams must wait for the outcome of Saratoga's important match this Tuesday.
