Rams finish with loss
The Willow Glen football team dropped a tough 32-6 decision to rival Lincoln on the final day of the season. But it was a game that, as the cliché goes, was much closer than the score would indicate.
Willow Glen trailed just 7-0 at intermission, then cut the Lincoln lead to just 7-6 when Steve Lopez scored on a 2-yard run in the third quarter.
That's when things started to get away from the Rams. Lincoln scored twice before the end of the third quarter to lead 22-6, then scored on a touchdown and a field goal in the fourth to claim the lopsided victory.
Still, the loss does little to tarnish what is certainly a turn around year for the Rams. Willow Glen came into the year trying to rebound from records of 3-7 in 1999 and 0-10 in 200. And the Rams did rebound with a 5-5 record and a 5-2 finish in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. Willow Glen finished third in the division behind Independence (7-0, 10-0) and Lincoln (7-2, 5-1).
Panthers nail third
The Presentation girls golf team roared to a third-place finish at the Central Coast Section championships held Oct. 29 at Rancho Cañada in Carmel.
Sara Garcia carded a low 94 to finish 20th overall to lead the Panthers to the team third. Teammate Tori Whelan was close behind in the 21st, shooting a 95.
Ashley Anderson also finished the top 25 at CCS for the Panthers, firing a 96 to wind up in a three-way tie for 21st.
Jennifer Perisho (105), Kelley Davis (112) and Jennifer Shiba (123) rounded out the squad for the Panthers.
Alaniz finishes fourth
Eddie Alaniz of San Jose City was fourth overall in 21:53 to lead the San Jose City College men's cross country team to a team fourth last weekend at the Northern California championships in Belmont.
Supporting Alaniz for the Jaguars were Rigo Ramirez, 19th in 22:32; Chris O'Neal, 27th in 22:51; and Nick Fill 50th in 24:04.
Akia Hasan of San Jose City was 40th in the women's division in 22:02.
