Amiable elves wanted, no experience needed

The Willow Glen Business and Professional Association needs help from our community. We are looking for some friendly elves to help us decorate downtown Willow Glen for the upcoming holiday season. We realize how proud the community is of its quaint downtown, and we welcome their participation in sprucing up Lincoln Avenue.

All interested helpers are invited to join us at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21 at L'Daisy Patch, at 1393 Lincoln Ave.

    For more information, call 408.298.2100.

Seniors could use help with yard work

I have just one suggestion to add to J.S. Keller's opinion of the eyesore homes in Willow Glen ("Take a look around at eyesore homes," Nov. 3).

If you have such a home on your block, check to see if it belongs to a senior citizen who may not be able to maintain it by themselves. Some elderly neighbors need a little help with yardwork (instead of criticism), and are grateful to those who help them out. It only takes a few minutes to cut their grass when you're out there cutting your own. We have a couple of those "helpers" in our neighborhood and I'm proud to call them neighbors. The added plus of helping your neighbors is feeling good about having done your good deed for the day.

    Do You Solstice?

December marks the arrival of the winter solstice--a traditional celebration of light. We are interested to know how our readers celebrate the solstice, and other alternative ways of commemorating the holidays.
