Rams clinch division polo title
Overtime win over Leland pushes WG into the finals

Scott Kaubish thought that his Willow Glen girls water polo team could win the championship in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this fall.
And he thought right.
The Rams edged Castilleja 6-5 in the division championship game last week to clinch the crown. Willow Glen had edged Leland 6-5 in overtime in the semifinals earlier in the week.
The Livak sisters, Kristin and Courtney, combined for seven goals in the two games to lead the Rams to the impressive victories.
The Livaks had two goals apiece, and Kara Buchanan and Alicia Barreto also scored goals in the title-clinching win over Castilleja.
Castilleja opened up a 2-1 lead in the first period, but the Rams tied it by the half. Willow Glen outscored Castilleja 3-1 in the third to take a 5-3 lead, then held off the visitors in the final period.
The going was equally as tough in the semifinals against Leland. The Rams were up 2-1 at intermission, but the Chargers tied it 3-3 after three periods.
The squads matched goals in the fourth quarter and the first overtime. But the Rams scored an unanswered goal in the second overtime period to claim the exciting win.
K. Livak led the Rams with two goals, and C. Livak, Barreto, Tracy Harding and Allison Rice each scored goals in the win.
By winning the title, the Rams have assured themselves of a place in the upcoming CCS playoffs.
Willow Glen opened the division tournament with an 8-3 win over Presentation. K. Livak led the Rams with three goals, and C. Livak and Barreto added two goals apiece. Harding had a goal to round out the scoring.
Willow Glen lost its bid for a perfect record on the final day of the regular season when the Rams lost an 8-3 decision to Mitty. Harding, Barreto and C. Livak each scored for WG in the loss.
