San Jose unveils new emergency programs

San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales and San Jose Police Chief William Lansdowne Nov. 9 announced the city's new emergency training program, "San Jose SAFER"--Security Actions for Emergency Readiness.

The program addresses emergency preparedness in San Jose. During alternating years, police will complete two courses that focus on the city's emergency management systems and plans, including terrorist tactics.

The programs are being implemented to help police handle disasters of all kinds, whether they are earthquakes, floods or terrorist attacks, Gonzales said.
