    Rams win opener

    The Willow Glen boys soccer team opened the 1999-2000 season with an exciting 1-0 win over Santa Teresa.

    Juan Rivera knocked in an unassisted goal in the first half to help the Rams to the victory. Goalkeeper Christian Jimenez recorded "three good saves," said coach Sue Parisi, on his way to the shutout.

    The Rams will now enter in the Homestead Christmas Cup Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. Willow Glen will take on Watsonville at Homestead on Nov. 27. The tourney runs for three weeks.

    Volleyball Club

    The Quicksilver Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for the 2000 season on Dec. 4 for girls ages 12-18 on new courts at Independence High School. The tryout fee is $20 and players should come with kneepads and expect to work hard.

    Quicksilver plans to field at least one team in each age division (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18).

    PAL Baseball

    The San Jose PAL is accepting signups for the 2000 season for players ages 7-12. New players must provide a birth certificate. For more information, call Officer Kevin White at 408.272.9725, ext. 102.

    SJ Pacific Pony

    San Jose Pacific Pony Baseball will hold signups for the 2000 season for players ages 5-14 on Dec. 4, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Round Table Pizza Parlor, corner of Camden Avenue and Kooser. New players must provide a birth certificate.

    Run to the Far Side

    The California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco will host the Run to the Far Side, a 10K and 5K run/walk set for Nov. 28, 8:30 a.m. The registration deadline is Nov. 19 and the cost if $15 for members and $20 for non-members.     Baseball Camp

    Stanford assistant baseball coach Mark O'Brien will host the annual Stanford baseball camps for players ages 12-18 on the Stanford campus.

    The camps will feature hitting and defense, with a special camp for pitchers ages 13-18. Camps will be held Nov. 26-28, Dec. 20-22 and Dec. 27-29 at Sunken Diamond, and the cost is $110 per session.
