Rams fall in CCS playoff game

Willow Glen did what it does best in the first round of the Central Coast Section football play-offs.

But the Rams didn't do enough of it, and ended up dropping a 50-29 decision to San Lorenzo Valley in their CCS Division IV opener last Saturday.

Willow Glen passed for 302 yards and a couple of touchdowns, but its defense couldn't hold down powerful SLV, and the Cougars rolled to the playoff win.

The loss brought an end to an outstanding 1998 season for the Rams, who tied with Santa Teresa for the championship in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this fall. Willow Glen finished the year with an 8-3 record overall.

Junior quarterback David Macchi completed 30-of-52 passes for 302 yards. He tossed to Leon Thomas for 24 yards and a touchdown and also hit Cory Hare for eight yards and a TD. Macchi also ran for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns. Nich Holt kicked three extra points and Hare ran in for a 2-point conversion.
