Teachers at WGES receive bonus checks
Just in time for the holidays, 36 Willow Glen Elementary School teachers and staff--including staff who have relocated--will receive each receive a $5,000 bonus in their paychecks.
The bonuses were set aside by the state's Department of Education for educators whose students improved on their spring 2000 Academic Performance Index standardized test scores by at least 10 percent.
Willow Glen Elementary School principal Anita Sunseri said she was excited to receive confirmation that the bonuses were not affected by cuts in state funding.
"It looks like the state put the money to the side as promised and are paying out the bonuses," Sunseri said.

Garbage Collection Holiday Schedule
San Jose's collection of garbage, recycling and yard trimmings will be delayed by one day during the December holidays. No collections will be made on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.
From Dec. 26, 2001 to Feb, 1, 2002, natural and flocked Christmas trees will be collected at the curb for composting, but tree stands, decorations and tinsel must be removed. Christmas trees do not require an extra garbage sticker.
