    Hospital hosts Health and Safety Fair Dec. 2

    O'Connor Hospital in San Jose is hosting a free community health and safety fair on Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at O'Connor's medical office building, next to the hospital at 2101 Forest Ave. in San Jose. Limited quantities of free flu shots and cholesterol screenings, along with vision, eye glass, blood pressure checks and glucose testing are a few of the services available at the fair. Information on proper nutrition, emergency preparedness, home safety and security tips will also be provided. Seniors can also bring their medications and talk with a pharmacist about the safest ways to take them. Free entertainment and refreshments will also be offered. For information, call 408.947.2512.

    Scottish band plays Christmas concert

    The Stewart Tartan Pipes and Drums of San Francisco band will perform a Scottish Christmas concert on Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. at the Stone Church in Willow Glen, 1108 Clark Way and Lincoln in San Jose.     Guadalupe River Park offering inscriptions

    The Guadalupe River Park and Gardens offers the chance to honor an individual who or group that also benefits the work of the nonprofit Guadalupe River Park and Gardens Corporation. The Donor Walkway is in the Arena Green area of the park, and a message, name or tribute can be inscribed on a granite paver. The donations benefit the nonprofit group that works to provide community leadership and support to the completion of the park and gardens, as well as the development of programs that encourage the public to use the park.     18th annual Holiday Peace Fair is Dec. 2

    The 18th annual Holiday Peace Fair will be held on Dec. 2, from noon to 5 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1980 Hamilton Ave. at Leigh Avenue in San Jose. The Peace Fair will feature live entertainment by the San Jose Peace Chorale and Lisa Atkinson.

    Twenty-five community organizations will participate, selling gifts from around the world. The fair's organizing committee selects two recipients for the moneys raised at the event. This year, the Georgia Travis Women's Center and Lafanmi Selavi, a Haitian center for street children, will benefit from the proceeds.

    Two San Jose organizations, LACES: Linking Action Commitment and Education for Solidarity and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, are organizing the event. All are welcome to attend the fair for a day of shopping and entertainment. A $1 donation is appreciated. For more information, call 408.923.7001, or 408.246.2129.
