The Willow Glen ResidentSports BriefsLincoln Glen Little League The Lincoln Glen Little League will hold sign-ups for the 1998 season on Dec. 6 and 13, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. each day, at River Glen Park, on the corner of Bird and Pine. The league is open to youngsters ages 5-18 (as of July 31, 1998). Players must provide proof of age (birth certificate) and proof of residency (PG&E or water bill). For information, call 264-1125. Bellarmine honors grads Five former Bellarmine Prep star athletes joined an exclusive club last month when they were named to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. Tim Harper, John Bambury, John Schwartz, Larry Seeger and Mike Lowney were inducted into the school's hall, and the unbeaten football team of 1946 was paid a special tribute when ceremonies were held Nov. 13 at the school. Lowney, a Willow Glen resident who teaches at Bellarmine, was selected in a special category. Lowney coached football for 20 years at Bellarmine, working with players at the freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels. Lowney is in his 28th year at Bellarmine, teaching biology and chemistry. He also supervises the school's weight room and continues to provide support for the Bellarmine football teams. Lowney played football and basketball and also ran track as a high school athlete at Central High in Butte, Mont. Bambury was a track star for the Bells in 1963 and '64; Harper and Seeger were standout baseball players at Bellarmine; and Schwartz was a top football player at the San Jose school. The inductees join the 112 men who have already earned places in the Bellarmine Hall of Fame. Youth Sports Grants The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame will continue in its tradition of supporting youth sports by offering grants to youth sports organizations through its BASHOF Youth Fund. The grants are available for youth sports groups to purchase sports equipment. Applications for the grants must be completed and returned by Dec. 31. The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame has provided over $1,325,000 to youth sports organizations in the nine counties of the Bay Area. Last summer, the fund provided grants to 48 different groups. Grants will be distributed in the summer of 1998. For more information, call 1-415-352-8835. Sports & Boat Show The 56th annual San Francisco Sports & Boat Show returns to the Cow Palace in Daly City for its 10-day run Jan. 16-25.
