    Bookstore to host authors

Award-winning authors Dean Morrissey and Molly Bang are coming to Hicklebees children's bookstore, 1378 Lincoln Ave., as part of Hicklebee's December holiday events.

Morrissey will read from his book A Christmas Carol Dec. 5, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and Bang will present Nobody Particular: One Woman's Flight to Save the Bays Dec. 6., from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Co-owner Valerie Lewis is excited about the events and says, "Dean has been here before, but this is Molly's first time here. She has turned into something of a feminist, and her new book reflects the actions of a strong woman."

    School district approves bond

San Jose Unified School District board members approved placing a new $429,000 bond measure on the March ballot.

The board needed to decide on the amount and file with the state by Dec. 7. The bond will require 55 percent voter approval to pass and is two and a half times greater than the previous bond passed by the voters in 1997 for $165,000.
