    Girls Softball

    West Valley PAL Girls Softball will hold signups for the 2002 season Jan. 5 and 12, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Jan. 9, 6:30-9 p.m., in the cafeteria at Bagby School, corner of Leigh and Curtner avenues in San Jose.

    The recreational league is open to girls ages 5 to 16. First-time players must provide a birth certificate. For more information, call 408.377.1960.

    WG Youth Football

    The midgets of the Willow Glen Youth Football organization won their second straight Police Athletic League title with a 20-12 win over Milpitas 20-12 recently.

    The squad's head coach was Gerald McGuire, and members of his coaching staff included defensive coordinator Brian Pinkham, offensive coordinator Phil LoPresti and line coaches Dave Anello, Jesse Sanchez and John Chiappe.

    Willow Glen Youth Football fields four teams for PAL play each fall, with players ranging in age from 8 to 14. Those interested in more information on the program should call Chris Rowher (president, athletic director) at 408.723.3307.

    Holiday Camps

    Santa Clara University will host Holiday Baseball Camps Dec. 15-16 at Buck Shaw Stadium for players ages 14 to 18.

    The clinics, run by Santa Clara University coaches, will include sessions on hitting, fielding and pitching. The cost is $125 per session, and campers will be grouped according to age and skill level.

    Hitting Camps

    San Jose State University will hold its annual Spartan Baseball Winter Hitting Camps Dec. 15-16 and Dec. 22-23 for players ages 9 to 17 at Blethen Field (across from Kelly Park and Municipal Stadium).

    San Jose State head coach Sam Piraro will direct the camp, and his assistant coach and hitting instructor, Dean Madsen, will be the key instructor at the camp.

    The cost is $75 per camper, and camps will include individualized instruction during cage drills, hitting drills and on-field hitting.
