Augustina Pierro
Willow Glen resident Augustina "Auggie" Marie Pierro passed away Nov. 22 of heart failure. She was 87.
Pierro was born in Santa Clara on May 19, 1914, to Italian immigrants. She grew up in San Francisco and Santa Clara and worked in local canneries. She married Gennaro "Pete" Pierro in 1943 and moved to Hicks Avenue in 1961.
Pierro volunteered for the Italian Catholic Federation, the American Cancer Society, the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Menlo Park and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended the Live Oak Adult Day Services for the past five years, and previously attended the Stone Church Senior Center.
A vigil service was held Nov. 29 at the Lima Family Erickson Mortuary, and a Mass was held Nov. 30 at St. Christopher Catholic Church. Pierro is survived by her daughter, Rose P. Simmons and son-in-law, John M. Simmons, of Willow Glen; her brother, Victor J. Baggiani, of San Jose; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews here and in Italy.
