Association is slated to be complete in January
Candidates to be announced soon for board election
By Moryt Milo
With six of seven positions filled, the Willow Glen Business and Professional Association may finally have a slate of candidates stepping up to assume the helm of the association's executive board.
Mimi Braatz, owner of Mimi Braatz Advertising and one of the nominating committee members, said, "We are only waiting on the recorder position before we can file the slate."
Braatz said the committee has successfully solicited members to fill the positions of president; first, second and third vice presidents; secretary; and treasurer. At press time names of the candidates could not be disclosed.
According to association bylaws, before names of new candidates can be officially announced, they must be verified as members in good standing with the business association, which means they must have paid their association dues.
Braatz will supply association vice president Chris Carris with the names. Once verified, the association will formally announce candidates, and an election can be held in 30 days.
Braatz does not foresee any problems with the new candidates' standings, and with only the recorder position to fill Braatz, said, "We will have a dynamite board."
Association members had tried to target elections before the end of December, which would have put a new executive board in place as of Jan. 1. But the nominating committee did not have enough time to fill and file the slate by Nov. 30.
Braatz said that, although the slate has taken longer than expected to fill, the association is hoping to have a new executive board in place by January, which is still a month earlier than in prior years. New board members under old bylaws assumed office in February.
The new board will also assume the responsibilities of coordinating the Dancing on the Avenue festival. The board will apply for a cultural grant. The deadline for filing the grant was Dec. 14.
"We will have a grant in place for Dancing [on the Avenue]," Carris said prior to the deadline.
But he said the board did not file a grant for Founder's Day and told the Willow Glen Resident that the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association was approached about filing for a cultural grant for Founder's Day.
