The Willow Glen ResidentSports BriefsHeisman Awards Ricky Williams of Texas won't be the only athlete walking off with a Heisman Trophy this year. Thanks to the sponsorship of Wendy's, there are also High School Heisman awards presented to top male and female athletes in the country. Local high school athletes nominated for the national award include: Kevin Brown (Bellarmine) and Danielle LeBaron (Presentation) of San Jose, Victoria Doane (Wilcox) of Santa Clara, Alexander Shoor (Saratoga) of Saratoga and Jason Dent (Wilcox), Sueh Han Liew (Fremont) and Frederick Lwee (Fremont) of Sunnyvale. The award honors top scholar-citizen-athletes in high school. Basketball Camp A youth basketball mini-camp for boys and girls ages 7-12 will be held Dec. 28-30, 9 a.m.-noon each day, at the Central Branch of the YMCA. The registration deadline is Dec. 23. Lincoln Glen Little League The Lincoln Glen Little League will hold signups for the 1999 season on Jan. 9 and 23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and Jan. 14 and 21, 6-9 p.m., at River Glen Park. The league is open to players ages 5-18 (as of July 31, 1999). Proof of residency is required for all players, and new players must provide a birth certificate. For more information, call Tom Feasby at 264-1125. Willow Glen Little League The Willow Glen Little League is holding signups for the 1999 season. The league is open to boys and girls ages 5-18. Players must provide an original birth certificate and a utility bill for proof of residency when they register. For information, call 450-8502. Baseball Camps Stanford will host a holiday baseball camp December 27-29 for players ages 13-18. Hitting, pitching and defensive instruction will be covered, and the cost is $100. Pitching Program West Valley Community College pitching coach Burch Boehner will present a winter pitching program Wednesday evenings, Jan. 27-March 10, in the West Valley gym in Saratoga. Players ages 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., and players ages 11-12 attend at 8 p.m. Preseason arm conditioning, pitching fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills will be covered.
