Molly Shanley is doing all she can do to make it a Happy New Year for the Presentation girls' basketball team, even though it's still the final days of the old year.

Shanley poured in 25 points in two games to lead the Panthers in back-to-back wins in the first two rounds of the New Year's Classic at Mitty last week, keeping Presentation alive in the winner's bracket as tournament play continues this week.

The Panthers, who were to face Pinewood on Monday, opened the tourney with a convincing 58-34 win over Piedmont Hills, then pounded Live Oak 47-30.

Shanley pumped in six field goals, including three buckets from three-point range, to finish with 15 points in Presentation's tourney-opening win over Piedmont Hills.

Jaleh Donaldson popped a pair of threes on her way to nine points in the win, and Bonnie Werner and Megan Moniz added eight points apiece.

Rosanna Moreno supported with six points, Cheyenne Brown and Jessica Borello hit five each and Caitlyn Foley added two to round out the scoring for the Panthers. Borello hit a three-pointer in the win.

The Panthers outscored the Pirates in every period on the road to the victory. They led by just three at the first buzzer, but topped the Bucs 19-7 in the second to take a commanding 15-point lead by intermission, 29-14.

Presentation, now 8-3 for the year, came right back with an easy win over Live Oak.

Moniz led the Panthers with 12 points, and Shanley was close behind with 10 points in the win. Shanley hit a three-pointer for Presentation.

Moreno came through with nine points for the Panthers. Donaldson, Brown and Werner hit four points each, and Borello and Cassie Bienneman hit two points apiece in the win.

Presentation jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead in the first period against the Acorns. The Panthers stretched that nine-point lead to 19 by the half, outscoring Live Oak 19-9 in the second quarter to lead 32-23 at the half.

Live Oak slipped to 5-3 for the year with the loss.

Rams are 12-1

Dion Saunders poured in 27 points, and Guy Beahm added 16 to lead the Willow Glen boys' basketball team to a rousing 79-65 nonleague win over Santa Teresa last week.

The Rams, who improved to 12-1 for the year with the win, outscored the Saints in every period on the road to the victory, leading by six after a period, by eight at the half and by 10 heading into the fourth before ultimately winning by 14.

Saunders pitched in 12 buckets from the field and added three points at the free-throw line to lead all scorers in the game with 27. Beahm supported with 16 points, all on eight field goals.

Junior guard Eric Dean buried four three-pointers on his way to 13 points in the win, and Rayvon Jackson joined the others in double digits with 10 points.
