Special Olympics

Special Olympics is looking for volunteers to work with athletes in the upcoming summer softball season. A volunteer orientation is scheduled for June 11, 7 p.m., at the Special Olympics office, 43 E. Gish Road, San Jose. For more information, check the website at www.sonc.org, or call 408-392-0170.

Say, hey!

The "Say Hey Kid," Willie Mays, will be the special guest at the San Francisco-San Jose Giants Boosters' 10th annual fundraiser dinner on June 23 at Lou's Village in San Jose. No-host cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. The cost for Booster members is $35 for adults and $15 for children ($50 and $20 for non members). Mays will be the guest of honor, and other invited guests include Lon Simmons, Orlando Cepeda, Bobby Bonds, Jimmy Davenport, Peter Magowan, Russ Ortiz, Chad Zerbe and Mark Letendre. Hockey players

Eighth-grade girls interested in playing field hockey in the fall season at Willow Glen High School should contact head coach Peggy Booth at 408-535-6330 or at peggy_booth@sjusd.k12.ca.us.

Cindergals reunion

The San Jose Cindergals, a top-flight age-group track and field club coached by Augie Argabright from 1968 to 1985 will hold a reunion on June 16 at Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Argabright, currently the cross country coach at San Jose State University, turned out 47 national age-group champions in his 18 years as the coach of the Cindergals. Two members of the squad, Francie Larrieu and Cindy Poor, went on to compete for U.S. Olympic teams. Lacrosse clinic

A lacrosse clinic for girls entering the sixth through eighth grades in the fall will be held June 8, 10 a.m. to noon, at Leland High School in San Jose. The cost for the clinic is $6, and equipment will be provided. Girls should bring water, and a mouthguard is recommended. For more information, call John Fensterwald at 408-265-2224.
