DeCecco's no-hitter helps HSR clinch division title

By   Dick Sparrer

Third baseman Andy Morgan handled a couple of chances and second sacker Kyle Tom had one, but it was David DeCecco who took care of the rest when HSR blanked SP Carter 5-0 last week to wrap up the major division championship in the Lincoln Glen Little League.

DeCecco tossed a no-hitter, striking out 14 and walking just one, to lead his club to the impressive win over Carter. HSR clinched the division championship with the win, finishing the second half in first place at 8-2 after winning the first-half title with a 9-1 mark.

HSR will now represent Lincoln Glen in the District 12 Tournament of Champions. The locals will open up against Union Little League on June 15, 11:35 a.m., at the Almaden Little League field.

No doubt DeCecco will get the call again on Saturday, and he'll be trying to match his performance of last week, when he was in complete command in the 5-0 win over SP Carter.

There are only 18 outs in a regulation six-inning Little League baseball game, and 14 of them came via strikeouts by DeCecco. Morgan fielded two attempted bunts at third and threw out runners at first, and Tom snagged a ground ball at second and threw out the runner. The only other defensive chance was a comebacker to the mound that DeCecco grabbed and tossed to first for the out.

The only baserunner the HSR ace allowed came on a walk after he had gotten up in the count 0-2.

Catcher Greg Garrity and shortstop Victor Rodriguez were other key players for HSR.
