A variety of summer sports camps for youth

Softball camp

The annual Presentation Girls Softball Camp returns to the school's Willow Glen campus July 8-12, 9 a.m. to noon each day.

The camp is open to girls in the eighth, ninth and 10th grades, and is geared to players of all skills levels, from intermediate to experienced school and travel players.

The camp will be hosted by the Presentation varsity and junior varsity coaching staffs, and there will be instruction in fundamentals, hitting, fielding, base running, outfield and infield play, pitching, catching, conditioning and game play.

Hoop camp

The Westmont Basketball Camp for elementary-and middle school-aged children will be held July 8-12 in the main gym at the school. Girls will attend 9:30-11:30 a.m., and boys will attend 12:30-2:30 p.m. The cost is $90 per player.

Fitness camp

The third annual Sport and Fitness Camp Series for youngsters ages 12-15 is being held at the Los Gatos Athletic Club.

Six-week camps sessions will begin July 15, July 22, July 29 and Aug. 5. Camp hours are 12:30-5 p.m., Monday through Friday (with an optional Saturday), and the cost is $275.

The camp features the fundamentals of fitness and nutrition with mind-body connection and goal planning.

All-Sports Camp

Santa Clara University will host its Summer All-Sports Camp for children with a "sincere interest in sports and outdoor recreation."

Camps will begin July 14 and Aug. 11 for resident campers and July 15 and Aug. 12 for day campers.

Sports offered will include baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis and more. For more information, contact Antonio Veloso at aveloso@scu.edu.


SJSU camps

San Jose State University baseball coach Sam Piraro will head up the annual SJSU summer baseball camps for players ages 9-17 this summer.

Specialty camps are slated for July 29-Aug. 2 (pitching camp for ages 12-17, 10 a.m.-noon, and hitting camp for ages 9-17, 1-3 p.m.). The cost is $125 per player (both sessions $200), and camps are limited to the first 25 campers.

All campers receive a free T-shirt, and there will be camper evaluations and special awards.

Wrestling camps

The 13th annual Camp for Kids, hosted by the Wildcat Wrestling Club, returns to Los Gatos High School this summer.

A camp for advanced wrestlers in grades 8-12 (minimum two years of junior high or one year of high school experience) will be held July 1-5.

The camp runs daily 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the high school wrestling room, and the cost is $110 per week.

Veteran Los Gatos wrestling coach Scott Downs is the camp director, and former Los Gatos High School varsity coach Jeff Garlick is the head instructor. Toby Corey, the Fisher and C.T. English coach, will also serve on the staff with other current and former Los Gatos coaching assistants.

Rowing camps

The Los Gatos Rowing Club will host a series of rowing camps this summer for those boys and girls entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

Participants will take part in land training techniques and in daily practice sessions in boats on the waters of the Lexington Reservoir. Sessions are scheduled for July 8-12, July 22-26 and Aug. 5-9, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. The cost is $250 per session, and includes lunch and a camp T-shirt.
