Traffic measures are good, but not at others' expense This is in response to Patrick Coleman's letter to the editor in the June 19 issue of the Willow Glen Resident. I can appreciate the fact that Hicks Avenue is trying to stop the "cut-through traffic" during commute hours. However, I do not think that it is in the best interest to have the same traffic now flow down Cherry, Lupton or any of the other side streets in the area. Yes, we "should support efforts to maintain those neighborhoods" that have experienced "cut-through traffic" but not at the expense of others (such as Cherry, Lupton, Dry Creek, Simpson and Robsheal, to name a few). I notice that Cherry Valley Drive is a small street that can be accessed by Weaver Drive. That's one small additional block you need to drive to get home. I want to repeat one statement I made in an earlier letter to the ResidentI oppose moving one person's problem to another's front door. Presently the city of San Jose has moved the Hicks problem to Cherry, Dry Creek, Simpson, Robsheal, Lupton, etc. I ask the city to consider other options to fix the Hicks problem and ensure that its decisions move traffic where it is intended to go. I also want to respond to Coleman's P.S. That one-mile inconvenience that he spoke of cuts through other neighborhoods. Helen Beth Morris, Madrona Avenue |
