New stop sign at Malone and Bird An additional stop sign was placed at the intersection of Malone Road and Bird Avenue in the second week of June. San Jose's Department of Transportation had received a request to have a stop study done at that intersection and they found that the intersection qualified for a stop sign. Now those driving southbound on Bird Avenue won't be the only ones having to stop at the intersection. Presentation student receives scholarship Valerie Tallerico, a recent graduate of Presentation High School, recently received a scholarship from the Italian American Heritage Foundation. Tallerico will be attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the fall to pursue a degree in city and regional planning. With four sets of great-grandparents who emigrated from various regions of Italy, Tallerico maintains strong ties to her Italian heritage. Her goal is to design cities that people enjoy living in, not just inhabit out of necessity. She is well-known for her strong faith, service to others and dedication to making a difference in the world. Other recipients of the scholarships include two Gilroy High School seniors - Chelese Struthers, who will be attending UC-Berkeley in the fall, and Ana Amelio, who will be attending UC-Santa Barbara. WG teachers send students to contest Willow Glen residents and Bellarmine College Preparatory teachers, Bill Healy and Kim Jones, coached eight students to the National High School Speech and Debate Championships in Charlotte, N.C., in June. The championship featured more than 200 students from all over the country competing in events such as policy debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate. original oratory, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, duo interpretation, and student congress. Bellarmine senior Imran Haque finished in eleventh place in the extemporaneous event and ninth place in the Lincoln Douglas Debate. Another senior, Patrick Heil brought home a first place award in the expository event. Tin Yum Ho, a Bellarmine senior received a fifth place award in the original oratory event. |
