Lincoln Glen 9-year-olds win District 12 championship By Dick Sparrer The Lincoln Glen Little League certainly won its share of District 12 championships this spring. The Lincoln Glen major division all-stars beat Los Gatos to claim the district crown, and the league's senior all-stars outlasted Cambrian Park to win a district title. But before those two clubs wrapped up their championship, there was another Lincoln Glen squad striking district gold. The league's 9-year-old all-star team won five straight games in the post-season tournament to win the District 12 flag. Lincoln Glen knocked off Almaden 10-5 in the tourney title game to clinch the crown. Matt Glomb tossed a complete game to pick up the win in the game. Joining Glomb on the district championship team were Alex Behrendt, Drew Bishop, Andrew Casalegno, Adam Flores, Michael Holbeck, Ryan Morfin, Kris Olugbode, Kyle Ray, Matthew Schmidt, Franklin Spadafore and Jake Wilson. Doug Ray was the manager of the squad, and Jim Casalegno and Ben Holbeck were his coaches. Lincoln Glen defeated American, Branham Hills, Quito and Almaden to win the championship. The locals knocked off the Almaden club twice. Major division The Lincoln Glen major division all-stars also won the District 12 title and went on to compete in the Section 5 tournament, played at the home of the American Little League in San Jose. The local 12-year-olds opened with a 7-2 win over Hollister, but then lost back-to-back 10-0 decisions to Aptos and Santa Clara Homestead. Aptos went on to beat Homestead 7-2 to win the tourney title. Dave DeCecco tossed a four-hitter, striking out 12 and walking just one, to lead Lincoln Glen to the 7-2 win over Hollister American to open the tournament. DeCecco helped his own cause with a two-run homer to spark a four-run rally in the first inning. DeCecco, Matt Mazzoni and Xavier DelaRocha each came through with key hits in a three-run fourth for the locals. DeCecco and Mazzoni finished with two hits apiece in the win. Lincoln Glen's bats went cold in the next two games, though. Kevin Eichhorn tossed a no-hitter at the locals in a four-inning game to lead Aptos to a 10-0 win, and Stephen Baldwin flipped a one-hitter in a five-inning game to lead Homestead to a 10-0 win. Members of the Lincoln Glen squad included DeCecco, Mazzoni, DelaRocha, Charlie Findeisen, A.J. Montoya, Vince Seiwit, Dan Willis, Greg Walters, Tim Boucher, Greg Garity, Andy Morgan and Kevin Jarvis. |
