Making Lemonade
Photographs by Paul Troia
When Diana Ross cancelled her summer tour, including Montalvo's big fundraising gala Aug. 14, it could have been disastrous. Instead supporters turned the proverbial lemons to lemonade, raising some $60,000 when the committee turned the evening into a house party--an intimate evening of private entertainment at the villa. Comedian Dan St. Paul and a capella Motown group Talk of Da Town entertained, and the arrival of a Barbra Steisand impersonator ensured the evening would include a "star." Following a live auction, guests danced in the oval garden to the 10-piece band Big City Revue.

Hawaiian Moments
Photographs by Dustin Cohen
Hawaiian attire was the fashion of the day when Norm Lariviere and his friend Carolyn Lund hosted their annual barbecue poolside on Aug. 10 at his Willow Glen home. Lariviere is the owner of the San Jose Swim and Racquet Club. A DJ played music for dancing, and word is that dancing was followed by leaps into the pool by guests still attired in their Hawaiian finest.
