Brett Adams, 12, of Willow Glen finished second in the 1112, 42-kilogram division at the U.S. Judo Federation's National Junior Judo Championships held in July in Sacramento.
Adams, a five-year member of the San Jose Buddhist Judo Club, competed in five matches against competitors from across the United States.
Golf tourney
he 20th annual Crime Stoppers of Silicon
Valley golf tournament and dinner auction
will be held Sept. 16 at the La Rinconada
Country Club in Los Gatos.
An entry fee of $170 includes golf with
community and celebrity players, a golf cart,
tee prizes, beverages, lunch and dinner. The
cost is $40 for the dinner and auction only.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a putting
contest at 10 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m., a
shotgun start at noon and dinner at 6 p.m.
Crime Stoppers receives no public funding.
The annual golf tournament is the primary
income source for the organization. For more

Quakes tryouts
The Silicon Valley Quakes, the South Bay area's longest uninterrupted traveling roller hockey program, will be holding its 200203 tryouts on Sept. 8 and 15 at Rollin Ice in San Jose.
The Quakes plan to field four teams the upcoming season—mites (birth years 1992, '93), squirts ('90, '91), peewees ('88, '89), and bantams ('86, '87).
Tryouts for mites and squirts will be held from 7 to 8:30 a.m., and tryouts for peewees and bantams will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The cost to try out is $5, and players should bring both a light and dark jersey to tryouts.
