Brett Adams, 12, of Willow Glen finished second in the 1112, 42-kilogram division at the U.S. Judo Federation's National Junior Judo Championships held in July in Sacramento.
Adams, a five-year member of the San Jose Buddhist Judo Club, competed in five matches against competitors from across the United States.

he 20th annual Crime Stoppers of Silicon
Valley golf tournament and dinner auction
will be held Sept. 16 at the La Rinconada
Country Club in Los Gatos.
An entry fee of $170 includes golf with
community and celebrity players, a golf cart,
tee prizes, beverages, lunch and dinner. The
cost is $40 for the dinner and auction only.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a putting
contest at 10 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m., a
shotgun start at noon and dinner at 6 p.m.
Crime Stoppers receives no public funding.
The annual golf tournament is the primary
income source for the organization. For more

Special Olympics
An orientation meeting for volunteers interested in joining the Special Olympics program will be held Sept. 10, 7 p.m., at the city of San Jose office building, 43 E. Gish Road off N. First Street.
The Special Olympics fall season includes soccer, power lifting, volleyball, distance running and walking, cycling and bowling.

Notre Dame golf
A golf tournament to benefit Notre Dame High School in San Jose will be held Oct. 7 at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon.
The entry fee of $195 includes lunch, golf, contests, auctions, a cocktail party, dinner and an awards ceremony.

Cullum a winner
The winner of the recent Los Gatos Dammit Run was incorrectly identified in last week's paper. The winner of the race was Brian Cullum, who covered the 4mile course in 28:15.
