Verbal duels: It's just much ado about nothing
By Jim Aquino
The battle of the sexes is reignited once again onstage as the Shady Shakespeare Theater Company presents Shakespeare's romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Local actors Bryan Freeman and Doll Piccotto star as sparring lovers Benedick and Beatrice, the consummate will-they-or-won't-they? couple. Their verbal duels and world-weariness are contrasted with the younger and less volatile pairing of Benedick's fellow soldier Claudio (Matt Singer) and Beatrice's cousin Hero (Nina Breton), whose blossoming relationship is threatened by the machinations of the villainous Don John (Robert Price).

Shady Shakepeare's managing director, Dinna Myers, directs this production of Shakespeare's "hit romantic comedy of the 1590s," which marks the outdoor theater company's fourth season, as well as its first season of performances at Sanborn-Skyline County Park in Saratoga.

The remaining performance dates are Fri., Sept. 20, 21 and 22. All performances take place at 7 p.m. and are free. The play will be performed at the Outdoor Amphitheatre at Sanborn-Skyline County Park, 16055 Sanborn Road.
